Everyone wants to get good search engine placement and one of the ways to get close to the top 20 is to have a reciprocal link with another site(s) on the web. Most people find other sites by following links from other sites. Getting linked is a good way to get a steady stream of internet traffic.

The search engines work for the searcher and not those being searched. Subsequently they want to send visitors to highly relevant sites that will provide the searcher with the information they are looking for. One of the ways to appear relevant is to have a number of incoming and outgoing links on your site. In this way your site will appear to be more valuable for someone searching for your product, service or information. This will get you a higher ranking.

• Someone visiting my site may not be interested in what I have to offer and I am happy that someone on my links page gets a shot at their business. On the other hand I am happy to get a shot at the business that is not right for you.

For instance I am linked to a number of alternative medicine sites. People interested in alternative medicine may be interested in my diagnostic information or they may be interested in some other aspect of alternative medicine.
• Outgoing links will make your site look more professional and oriented to take care of the visitor.
• Lots of outgoing links increase your link popularity with the search engines. This is very important.

• Someone may leave your site and not come back.

My main aim is to inform my visitors about the products and services I have to offer. I want them to buy my products. I will do whatever i can to get them to buy from me. However, if I have not convinced them enough by the time they click on my links button then I haven't convinced them enough to buy from, so why not send them to a colleague's site to see if they have a better chance? On the other hand this scenario may happen to you and I want a shot at the business that is leaving your site. Remember, these people are leaving my site and probably won't be back.

Even if no one ever clicks on your link on my site you still win because of the link popularity that is generated. The search engines see the link and rate you higher. This is why you and I should link together.
